自然地理：位于欧洲西部的爱尔兰岛，西濒大西洋，东北部同英国的北爱尔兰交界，东隔爱尔兰海与英国相望。中部是丘陵和平原，间有部分低地，沿海多为高地。主要山地有东部的威克洛山和西部的卡兰托希尔山，后者海拔1041米，为全国最高峰。最长河流香农河约370公里。最大湖泊为科里布湖（168平方公里）。属温带海洋性气候。平均气温1月4℃，7月15℃。年平均降水量760～2540毫米。
